The Begining!

Hello,
I hope you are all well?

I have been a little busy. After asking you all if it was a good idea to take over my daughters old room, I waited to see what you all would say and as usual you all came up trumps for me and reassured me that it wasn't selfish to not give my wonderful but, extremely messy sons', yet another space to mess up in our tiny home.

So I have taken it over, there's been a little moaning, but I refused to listen and just kept repeating, that if they can't keep one room tidy between two of them, then they didn't deserve any more room. To be fair to them they didn't actually moan a lot, just a couple of cheeky comments and a wee moan. They actually were very kind in offering their help and fetched to heavy things for their old mum lol.

First we had to finish sorting out my daughters belongings, not that she had left much behind and store it in our garage
However; I had brought them all new furniture and I had allowed Patricia to take her relatively new furniture with her, which meant digging out some old stuff from our double garage, which by the way looks very much like a skip it's self...yet another job to get on top of in the New Year.
Bless them they had their work cut out for them.

Meanwhile in an altogether tidier part of the house I began to gather up my craft work, books, boxes, tools, sewing machines (I have 2 of them..crazy), material, wool, beads, paper, ribbon, paints, labels, knitting needles,.....I could go on. What really got me was how much craft bit's and pieces I have and the cleaver ways in which I have hidden them within this tiny house.
Just as well I now have my own room, as while it is the smallest room in the house, it does at lest contain everything to hand now. I won't have to sit wondering what hi-die-hole, I have secreted the one tool etc I need. The room is indeed tiny, I mean 2 steps into the room and you are standing in the middle of it, another 2 steps and your at the window in fact if you made them big steps you'd be standing on the window cill!!!! (by the way it is only called a window cill; and spelt correctly with a C, if it is on the outside of your house, it is called a window board, if it is on the inside of the house. This term actually dates back to medieval times when a window was placed on a cill in order for it to have a flat surface to sit on. Otherwise the window won't fit squarely and would be on a slant. Often in order to get them straight they would place a bowl of water on the cill, as water will always find it's own level. After many years of working this way a craftsmen would get "an eye" for it and be able to level a window in without the bowl of water. A little bit ye olde history there for your entrainment, lol)

It then took a lot of sorting on my part to get it all in and find a little place for everything and everything in it's place. I even found a couple of projects that I had forgotten about, oh! OK!!! I had got bored and buried them, but they are looking tempting again, only mildly tempting though, not sure how bored I would have to be to finish them, but now I know about them again, I really ought to finish them off!!!!!!!! I can see now why I was struggling to get motivated and actually settle down to some creative work. I guess over the years I just got use to it being in spread out around the house and off course there is now room in other places of the house for me to sort through and have a good re-organise and clear out.

So here's some photo's of what it looks like at the moment and yes! I am aware that there is a door missing from the wardrobe, those cheeky sons of mine thought I wouldn't notice it missing!! Not to mention the missing top draw!!!! Could have sworn that it had 2 doors all those years ago when I brought it, but they keep telling me that I'm getting old and have forgotten that I tried to set a new trend for 1 door wardrobes, some how I don't think it will ever catch on, but I am reluctant to sent them back to the garage to find it, just in case they get lost or buried in there before Christmas.

I must tell you how lucky I was with getting this beautiful oak gate double gate legged table from the 1930's. £46 on e-bay and it only cost me £3 to get it home, as I picked it up myself and had to go over the toll bridge to collect it. Add the petrol and it cost under £50, bargin!!!!

You maybe curious as to why we have 2 laptops in this room, well the one in this photo is old and slow, but great with a web-cam and a motion sensor outdoor lamp, for stopping the hated neighbor form wrecking yet another one of our cars or property, they don't like, but we're happy with it, lol.

I have all my materials and wool in these chest of drawers, must get those sons' of mine to find the other drawer and wardrobe door.

I doubt my so called, 1 door wardrobe idea will catch on much, even I don't like it.
What will those boys dream up next!!!!!

  1. Oh, I don't know--I think I'd get Francis (with an 'i') to put a board in that chest of drawers to use it as a shelf instead. But the wardrobe--yup, I'd send 'em on a 'find/seek' mission! LOL

    Good for you!
And good for the boys, too. I think I'm proud of them for getting past the moan and helping their mum claim her own space. And boy--how clever you must have been to hidden all that way so well! (I might need some lessons....LOL)

Job well done! Or at least 'done' to this stage.
I do hope the daughter is enjoying her new found freedom in that place of her own!

  2. Agree, put a board in the dresser and make it into a shelf. as for the wardrobe, you could do the same, modify it by putting in shelving if you can't find the door. But I am so glad that the sons came around and helped you with making the room your own space. You deserved it! Have fun with!!!

For some mad reason Patricia has the other drawer so just need to get it back, but keep forgetting to ask for it.
Really excited about Francis(with an i) decorating it for me.
